Suicide Prevention Walk

We joined our family and friends in the AFSP annual Suicide Prevention Walk again this year.
According to their website
"In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 15 minutes, claiming more than 36,000 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute, with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. among adults 18-65, the second leading cause of death among teens and young adults, and individuals ages 65 and older account for 16 percent of all suicide deaths. This is a public health issue that does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status"
I think that is some scary and quite sad statistics. It seems that everyone I know has been affected in some way or knows someone that is affected by this disease. It is defiantly something that needs to be talked about more and prevented. I think one of the best prevention's is educating people and actually seeing survivors of those who have left and how they are affected and cope after something this tragic happens.

This year the event was HUGE. I could not believe in just the 4 years we have been coming to this how much it has grown but at the same time it is amazing. I was in awe many times throughout the day and had to hold back tears seeing so much support and love going around. They said we had over 1,310 participants.

My girls were being awful but it was nap time, once we started walking they both passed out and when they woke up they were much happier. Abbie loves to ride in the basket of the stroller.

The best way to help is prevention and AFSP does a great job at educating and holding these events to help spread the word. If you would like to donate to this great cause they are still taking donations until the end of December. You can find our team page HERE
